Pastor Peter Simpson was preaching the gospel in the centre of High Wycombe on July 13th, helped by Mrs Jenefer Campbell and Mrs Lis Outten, who handed out tracts speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ being the Light of the world.
A man walked by and uttered a profanity regarding the gospel witness. Pastor Simpson responded that the vulgar comment afforded no cogent argument against the validity of the Christian faith. Sadly, the man did not stop to argue his case more reasonably.
A man interjected as the preaching was taking place about who Jesus Christ really is. Pastor Simpson asserted that the Lord Jesus is fully God and is the eternal Son of God and the Creator of the universe. The enquirer may well have been a Muslim. The preacher declared that the Lord Jesus is also the only one through whom forgiveness of sins can be obtained. John 14:6 was quoted, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.
The minister in his preaching focussed on the necessity of the new birth. Man’s heart is by nature unclean and corrupted. All need an inward washing effected by the power of the Holy Spirit, what Paul calls “the washing of regeneration” (Titus 3:5). He also referred to some of the prevailing sins of the day, namely abortion and the promotion of the LGBT agenda. Passers-by were told that they were not free, but were slaves to their fallen hearts, slaves to the fashions of this world and slaves to majority opinion, but by repentance from sin and faith in Christ, all can be set free.
May those who heard gospel truth in High Wycombe realise the urgency of coming to the Lord Jesus, He alone who can inwardly cleanse them and give them new hearts.
