The next time one hears people in the churches talking about the need to be more loving and accepting of homosexuality, we might point out to them the nature of the public displays of immorality and indecency at the ‘Pride in London’ parade on Saturday July 7th in the centre of our capital city.

There was, for example, very serious immodesty of dress by both male and female. Do politically correct churches care in the least that young children could watch on the public highway men and women parading and dancing in nothing but scanty underwear? There were men dressed up as women, and there were even men clad in leather, dressed up as dogs on leads. This kind of exhibition, we are told, furthers the cause of ‘love’ and teaches us all to be ‘inclusive’.

The major sponsors of the parade were Barclays Bank and the Mayor of London. Those with floats included the NSPCC, the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Marine Commandos, NHS England, The National Trust for London, The Post Office, The Nursing and Midwifery Council, The Bank of England, and - wait for it - Southwark Cathedral. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution even displayed rainbow flags on a boat going up the Thames.
LGBT supporters from churches took delight in standing in front of our Bible-based witness wearing T-shirts saying “Christian and proud’. Why not choose their own area to stand in? Doubtless because something in them felt that they had to publicly negate the word of God being proclaimed.

One Methodist lady minister carried a poster implying that all Methodists were rejoicing in the day’s proceedings. This writer went up to her and told her that John Wesley plainly taught that the practice which she was celebrating to be an offence before the holy God. She was also politely told that to be a Methodist you have to follow the ‘method’ which is Scripture, and Scripture speaks unequivocally of the homosexuality as being a sinful lust of the flesh (for example, in Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:22-28, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1Timothy 1:9-10 and Jude v7).

We had some useful conversations with young people (especially girls), who were shockingly immersed in immoral attitudes, having been totally brainwashed by gay rights propaganda. They justified their joy at defying God’s commandments by saying that love between two people can never be wrong. One 16 year old’s language was unbelievably disgusting.

Interestingly, although our group of Bible-believing pastors and church members was small, we attracted a level of attention far beyond what our numbers justified. Parade supporters took great delight in dancing and playing loud music right in front of us, whereas they had vast portions of central London in which to do this. Why focus on our tiny area? It was because they cannot bear to hear God’s word and sin being publicly denounced.

One young man, who had come to our location in order to protest against us, told us that he felt unable to go ahead with his original aim, but wanted instead to hear more about what we had to say and about the Bible’s teaching. We feel that he was genuine and that the Holy Spirit was working graciously on his heart.

Some elder members of our small group were seriously wilting with the intense heat (not to mention the spiritual heat of the battle). We salute their courage, but this also led one to wish that more younger and able-bodied warriors had felt it right to come and join us to make a stand for righteousness and to act as purifying salt in our sin-laden society. If Bible-Believing Christians do not challenge the LGBT juggernaut, which is so destructive of Christian civilisation, there is no one else who will do it.

The consequences of sin unrepented of were clearly presented to the vast numbers of parade supporters, and Christ as the the only way of salvation was set forth to the myriads of anti-Christian revellers, “whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear” (Ezekiel 2:7). This is what the liberal establishment (which loves to accuse Bible-believing Christians of ‘hate’) always forgets; we preach the message of repentance from sin and faith in the Saviour precisely because we love, not hate, our neighbours. We are showing infinitely more love and concern to these enormous numbers of poor deceived young people at the parade than the forces of political correctness ever will.
Pastor Peter Simpson, Penn Free Methodist Church

PENN FREE METHODIST CHURCH is an independent, conservative evangelical and Protestant church, standing upon truth of the Bible, which is the very word of God. We exist to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ crucified for sinners. We uphold the complete inerrancy and historical accuracy of the Scriptures as being our sole authority in all matters of faith and practice.

In pursuit of this high calling of preaching Christ, the only Saviour of men, PFMC shuns the political correctness which has become the message of so many churches in our day. The task of churches is not to mimic the fashionable doctrines of secular liberalism (Romans 12:2, Colossians 2:8), but to be separate from the world and to proclaim the truths of God's word, regardless of whether the world likes it or not.

Modern Britain is simply not hearing about the need for each individual to repent, nor about  the reality of God's judgement upon sin. Instead, the message generally passed on by the mainstream churches is the old social gospel heresy, which bears little difference to atheistic Marxism.  Our nation needs, not cliches about ‘equality and diversity’, not a trendy, green ‘save the planet’ focus, not the anaemic man-pleasing message of social improvement (which is actually no different to the what the politcians say), not the materialism of an ‘abolish poverty’ emphasis, but a straightforward Biblical call to repentance from sin and to faith in Christ for salvation.
