The message of Jesus Christ crucified and risen again was declared In Slough High Street on November 21st by Mr Graham Parkhouse from Epsom and Pastors John Sherwood and Peter Simpson.
A man came up to Pastor Simpson, and told him that he believes in God. The minister asked him, Do you believe in Jesus Christ? The man replied, It does not matter, I believe in God. The minister quickly responded by asserting that Jesus Christ is God, appearing on earth in human form. Sadly the conversation did not continue after this.
Two Muslim ladies came up to Pastor Sherwood and told him that he must read the Quran. As the conversation continued, the preacher endeavoured to explain that no good works can get anyone into heaven, and that man’s attempts at goodness can never compensate for, or eradicate, the guilt of sin, as Islam in fact teaches. One sin is enough to keep a person out of heaven, because God is holy, and He requires perfection. He must carry out His justice upon sin before entrance into His presence can be granted. This justice is effected in the death of the Lord Jesus on the Cross, but tragically Muslims reject this act of atonement by our Lord, even denying that He died at all when on the Cross.
At one stage whilst preaching Pastor Sherwood proclaimed and emphasised how the Lord Jesus Christ is the great physician of souls who heals men from the spiritual disease of sin.
A man walking by, who was a Roman Catholic came up to in front of Pastor Simpson and kissed the crucifix which he was wearing around his neck. He was sadly, however, drunk and was also swearing a lot. Nevertheless, he did say that he had been listening carefully to the preaching. May the Holy Spirit apply the words which he heard to his heart in convicting power.
Pastor Sherwood had a long conversation with a man who has had a very difficult life, having to endure many personal afflictions. Indeed, he confessed to feeling utterly broken. He had been a mechanic, and so the minister described to him the Lord Jesus Christ as the Master Mechanic who is better fitted than anyone to put broken people back together again. Christ is also the only one who can bring order and purpose to this chaotic world.
Prayer is now being offered up that this self-confessed broken man might find healing for his soul by repenting of sin, and by coming to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
Indeed, may many others also who heard precious words of gospel truth in Slough respond with urgency and come to the Saviour, to Him who deals perfectly with the brokenness which all suffer in this fallen world in rebellion against God.
